MECC 2000 sponsors success: Project RED stands out at the European Rover Challenge 2023

MECC 2000 is pleased to announce the triumph of Project RED, the robot funded by our company in the world’s largest planetary robotics competition, the European Rover Challenge (ERC) 2023.

The ERC is an unparalleled competition that brings together global university teams to compete in tests similar to those faced by rovers on Mars and the Moon. This year, thanks to the financial support of MECC 2000 and other sponsors, Project RED took third place in the Remote Competition, also winning the prize for best navigation remote.

This competition, introduced in 2020 in response to the global logistical challenges caused by the pandemic, is a virtual test bed in which competing teams must remotely control a rover located in Poland, demonstrating skills in software development, mission planning, risk management and similar soft skills.

In contrast, the project’s second competition, the On-Site Competition, held annually in Poland, pits teams from all over the world against each other with their self-built rovers on martial-like terrain.

The results of the ERC 2023 testify to the outstanding success of Project RED, placing on the podium and winning awards for excellence in remote navigation. The collaboration of MECC 2000 and the other sponsors contributed significantly to this success, paving the way for further triumphs in 2024.

Thanks to this partnership, Project RED will again be competing at the ERC2024, ready to raise the bar and bring home even more prestigious results, contributing to the pride of Italy and our region in a competition of global scope such as the ERC.
